Mosquito Horror

• 1 min read

Prompt In 40 minutes, write a short story using these words: interest, pump, loom, navigate, restrict, mosquito

Ever since this human moved in, my family and I have been over the moon. In fact, yesterday, his blood pumped so fast, my proboscis hurt. Mosquitos like us were not built for this much abundance.

But everything changed the day another human came to visit. A woman. And just like us females, she was out for blood. Naturally, I was cautious that day, but my sister... that female, blinded by bloodlust, landed on the man and attempted to feed. The woman looked over her and I could all but look as she slapped my sister, restricting her against the man's arm.

That day, I experienced true horror as this woman methodically wiped out the rest of my family while I bobbed and weaved, navigating her flurry of strikes. Then she stopped and turned towards someone else. A male. Of all mosquitos trapped with her, why take interest in a male? Those ones could not even eat without us females. "Surely she would see his innocence," I thought. I was wrong.

She finished him off quickly, turned towards me, then left. In some twisted sense of humor, she left me as the sole survivor. Death would have been better.
